A Thought for the Day
As news came of the impending hurricane, tens of thousands evacuated. Traffic was brought to a standstill as the highways where overwhelmed in the onslaught of vehicles. Tens of thousands caught up in a desperate attempt to escape the coming storm. Knowing that buildings made by man could be no match for the forces coming against it.
Another storm is just beyond the horizon. A storm of hellfire and brimstone. A storm of eternal torture and damnation. But how many are attempting to flee to safety? How many are seeking the sanctuary that can only be found in the shelter of the Rock, Jesus Christ? How many instead will attempt to weather the storm, trusting in the “god” created by their own hands. The “god” that will never judge, the “god” that is all-loving, the “god” that would never punish “his” people. In other words, not God the Creator, but a “created god”.
How does anything else created by the hands or minds of man withstand when confronted by natural forces? God is the ultimate “natural force”; He created those things that bring about what we know as natural disasters and forces of nature. If we were as anxious to flee from sin and corruption and into the protection of Almighty God as we are to flee from a natural storm, truly we could know a heaven on earth as well as eternal salvation and security.
